Who We Are

Defenders for Medical Impartiality is an initiative launched in 2013 by the European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights, a Brussels-based non-governmental organization. Based in Beirut, the project aims to provide health activists from the MENA region an opportunity to directly engage in lobbying and advocacy activities at the UN level. Defenders for Medical Impartiality works as part of a vibrant movement to uphold protections afforded to health workers, services, and infrastructure in MENA countries where there is conflict or civil unrest.

Objectives

  • Document violations of medical impartiality in conflict and violations of the right to health in civil unrest; and
  • Extend protections afforded to health workers, services, and infrastructure in conflict to situations of civil unrest.
